Sitting at the Feet of Jesus

Sitting at the Feet of Jesus

In the middle of our fast-paced lives, the simple act of slowing down, of being still and sitting at the feet of God, can feel almost impossible.

Between work responsibilities, family, friends, social media, and the constant stream of news at our fingertips, it’s easy to feel pulled into every direction – there’s always something demanding our attention. Our phones keep us connected to everything, and they can easily dictate our emotions, often setting the tone for the rest of the day.

We’re constantly plugged in, constantly moving.

But that’s exactly the point.

When we’re too busy to pause, too distracted to pray, too exhausted to rest in God’s presence, we miss out on the peace, Spiritual growth, wisdom, and strength that only He can provide. And that isn’t just a random side effect of a busy life – it’s by design.

The enemy thrives in noise and chaos. He knows that if we stay busy enough, overwhelmed enough, and tired enough, we won’t have the space or energy to connect with God. No prayer. No worship. No communion. Just an endless whirlwind of distraction, dulling our Spiritual senses, making it easier to doubt, and harder to hear His voice.

In Luke 10: 38-42, we read:

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.’”

Jesus’ words remind us that, in the midst of life’s pressures and distractions, we often miss the opportunity to focus on what truly sustains us – our relationship and communion with Him.

Remember that we are always invited to prioritize the “good portion” – just as Mary did by sitting at Jesus’ feet. This represents the time spent in quiet reflection, learning from Jesus, and simply being present with Him. In a world full of distractions, it’s easy to become anxious about many things, but Jesus encourages us to seek first His kingdom (Matthew 6: 33). When we do, He assures us that the rest will fall into place.
